The Best Day

Hello, I'm back today with a card that I made for my nephew.  It's so hard for me to make manly cards, and I think I may have missed the mark on this one, but I still love how personal the card is.

When we were in El Paso for Christmas, Maddie and Damian made pancakes for us.  This was the first time Maddie got to help in the kitchen and she was just thrilled that she was making pancakes with Damian.  So, I decided to use a photo of them for his card.

I wish the photos turned out better, because in real life, the colors on this card are just great and they go together perfectly.  IDK why they look so faded and blurry in the photos.  Anyways, I used several items from my Heidi Swapp and Project Life stash for this card.  The background paper is from My Mind's Eye and I like how the paper makes it seem like there's additional flags and layers without adding any bulk to the card.

Thanks for stopping by today!!

Baby Maddie is on the Way!!!

So, it seems I fell off the face of the earth again :(  but it's been for a very good reason.  Our first baby will be here any day now and we've been working like busy little bees to get not only her nursery, but other areas of the house as well, ready for her arrival.  Add in the fact that we sacrificed my scrapbooking room for her nursery (I know, I know, it's hard making grown up decisions!!) and there's been no time for papercrafting.  I actually bought cards this year for Father's Day, bleh, they were super pricey and SOOO generic.  But all's not lost, my scrappy tools have seen some use in the past few months, it's just all been baby related and I promise to it all to you in the next few weeks.

Since this is our first journey into the world of kids, I quickly turned to the internet, and my BFF Pinterest for ideas and inspiration for all things baby.  And, as usual, Pinterest did not disappoint.  Not only did the majority of my ideas come from there, but the boards were great for corralling all of my purchasing sources.  We were definitely on a budget for our nursery and the majority of the items in this room are either DIY or customized by yours truly and the hubby.

Ready to see some pics?

When we found out we were expecting a girl, all of my previous gender neutral concepts flew out the window.  I knew I wanted a girly space, but I also knew I didn't want to overdose on Pepto Bismol pink.  She has a whole life of pink ahead of her, so we decided to go with non-traditional colors instead.  After looking at inspiration pictures online, in magazines, and on TV, I realized that we were quite drawn to rooms that had aqua or grey in them and we definitely had a strong preference for white furniture.  So, that's how our color scheme came about.  After choosing our colors, the room slowly started to come together in concept as we factored in the items we knew we wanted in the space, such as a dresser with a changing pad instead of a changing table.  Luckily, we started planning out the space since March so there's been plenty of time to wait for sale prices, work on projects a little at a time, and ponder over decisions.  All of this, I think, helped us to create a truly unique space that we love and can grow along with our baby.

There's so many items in our nursery that I would love to expand on and go over with you, but it would be way too much for one post, so I'll be back throughout the next few weeks or so with individual posts on the items we incorporated in our nursery and links to the tutorials and/or inspiration pieces.

Scrapbooking Again

Well, wouldn't you know it, I made two more scrapbook pages!  Weird right?  Well, these two pages are due to finding the GORGEOUS new line of MME paper, Lost & Found.  Swoon!  They are absolutely beautiful and are just perfect for scrapbooking.

While I was browsing through the paper at Scrapper's Boutique, I came across this paper and it immediately reminded me of the time my mom tried to show Jessica (my sister) how to sew.  The looks on my sister's face were so funny, I pulled out my camera to record them.  So, I pulled out the pictures, purchased a few embellishments and here's what I came up with:

I made one for my mom and one for Jess so they could always remember their mother-daughter time together.  I apologize for the glare, but I didn't remember to photograph them until they were in their shadowboxes.  There's lots of different elements on these pages, so this might be a long post. :)

The glittery titles were made using Making Memories alphabet stickers and crystal swirls by Prima Marketing were added to both pages.  The small spools at the bottom right were made using small wooden spools from Hobby Lobby painted with white acrylic paint and spooled with ivory and pink embroidery thread.  Both pages have clear acrylic brackets that were painted with alcohol inks and pearl hat pins attached to the ribbon ruffle.  Tiny scissor and thimble charms finished off the pages.

I plan on giving them to my mom when we meet in San Marcos, I really hope they like them!

Scrapooking

I actually made a scrapbook page!!  Everyone who knows me knows that scrapbooking intimidates me, so I usually stick to mini albums or cards.  But, I've had this acrylic page tucked away since last year and I've been wanting to create an album from last year's vacation so I thought I would experiment with one page first.

I apologize for the glare in the picture, I was impossible to take a picture without getting some glare.  This was the best one. :(

I kept the layout simple using nice bright colors and white for accent.  I am actually quite proud of this page, lol!  It took me almost an entire day to create it.  I used stazon ink to stamp some travel images on the back side of the acrylic plate and to ink the edges.  I used a Martha Stewart border punch on the orange paper, an edge distresser on the the blue and white paper, and added a crystal flourish for some bling.

At the rate I scrapbook, I might have an album together in 20 years!  Thanks for stopping by!

Playing Catch Up

I took a weekend trip to see my family and spend time with my mom for Mother's Day and I feel like I'm still playing catch up.  I made several cards last week, and I'll be posting them over the next few days.  Some are for Prickley Pear's seek peeks and blog hop!  Be sure and check in often on the PPRS blog and the design team members' blogs starting on May 17th for sneak peeks, plenty of ideas and cards, and of course giveaways!
I've got a card for you today, too.  I made this one for my sister for Mother's Day.  Here it is:
I'm so proud of this card!  My sister loves most things vintage and this pin up girl is perfect for her.  I colored her with copics and added liquid pearls to the flowers on her swimsuit.  Don't you just love that ribbon?!?!  I got it at Anthologies, it's by May Arts.  I only got one yard, but I'm definitely going back for more.  The hat pin is from Maya Road.

That's all I've got for today, but I'll post the card I made for my aunt tomorrow.  It's a direct CASE of a card I recieved from Joanne Basile...

Thanks for stopping by!

PS.  Did you see, I've got 9 followers now!!!  Ack, how exciting!!!  Thanks for following me, I'm so honored.  :)

In Loving Memory

I will be back later on to post some scrapbooking stuff, but first I want to dedicate this post to my wonderful uncle who passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010.  That day, Sergio Hernandez went on a bike run to honor fallen bikers never expecting to lose his own life.  During the run, he hit some debris on the road, lost control of his bike, and sustained head injuries that claimed his life.  The helmet he had taken off at the previous pit stop was strapped to the back of his motorcyle.  A million if only's have passed through my mind.

Sergio always lived life with an amazing sense of humor.  Only five years older than me, we grew up as brother and sister more than uncle and niece.  I will always remember all the jokes we shared, the trouble we got into at my grandma's house, and the times we spent hanging out.
Sergio, you will forever be 32 and full of life in our memories.  We will miss you so much.  Our lives and our family will never be the same.  You have left a huge hole in our hearts and my mind still can't process that you're gone.

I ask that you please keep my uncle's wife and his two beautiful children in your prayers.  It just breaks my heart that they will never see their daddy come home.  I just pray that God gives his wife the strength to carry on and maintain his legacy through his children.
